Ángela Inés Cadena

Ángela Inés Cadena is currently Associate Researcher at the Universidad de los Andes (Uniandes) in Colombia. Professor Cadena is an Electrical Engineer from Universidad de los Andes (Colombia) and holds a PhD in Economic and Social Sciences (mention Management Sciences) from the University of Geneva (Switzerland).

At Uniandes, she has been leading research projects related to the introduction of decentralized markets, smart grids and microgrid for different Colombian governmental authorities, utilities and regions and research centers. She has also conducted research initiatives aimed at building the MACCs for the Sectorial Mitigation Plans and advising the Government to define the iNDC.

In two instances she was the General Director of the Mining and Energy Planning Unit (UPME), entity in charge of proposing plans for the energy and mining sectors and carrying out analysis to support decision-making in the public and private sectors. She has been involved in ongoing dialogues regarding the future of the Colombian Power Sector Market, renewable integration to the grid and demand-side management actions, as well as, the Colombia’s UNFCCC processes.

Which global changes are needed to achieve the goals of the 2015 Paris climate agreement? How can policy stimulate these transitions in the most effective and efficient way, given the diversity of economic, political and cultural contexts of different countries around the world, and given the enormous global investments needed for these Paris goals?

A healthy public debate about important societal challenges requires a common and scientifically sound basis.
