Filip Ryba is a doctoral student at the Doctoral School for Humanities (Jagiellonian University in Kraków) and an activist. His doctoral project entitled ‘Being-with-crisis in Contemporary Beirut as a Fabulation about Futures in Climate Crisis’ involves fieldwork in Beirut and an exploration of alternative ways of imagining the climate crisis in academic and non-academic narratives. He focusses on possible grassroot ways of dealing with crises situations under the circumstances of a disappearing statehood and institutional support. I believe that such ways may provide a base for imagining futures different than those portrayed by international institutions. As an activist, he is involved in humanitarian aid on the Polish-Belarusian border and in pro-refugee initiatives. He has experience in working with people on the move and refugees.
For complex challenges an interdisciplinary synthesis can be more important and more relevant than technical and disciplinary expertise. Global problems require an international synthesis.
