Olena is a PhD student at KU Leuven in the Department of Geography. Her research began with a focus on segregation between migrants and local residents in urban areas, exploring how certain places in cities either promote intergroup mixing or reinforce segregation. This interest expanded into examining how intergroup exposure and contact shape relationships between different groups. Currently, Olena is working on two key projects: one assessing intergroup mixing between migrants and local residents in New Zealand, and another investigating the relationship between intergroup exposure and attitudes towards migrants in Belgium.
The intention is to gather scientific insights about major societal challenges in LIAS on the basis of international and interdisciplinary consultation.
