Perla Werner has been involved in gerontological research since 1978 and has contributed to the expansion of knowledge in the area of psycho-social aspects of Alzheimer's disease and other dementing disorders.

She has devoted the last ten years to the study of stigma in the area of Alzheimer's disease, its conceptualization, assessment, correlates, and management. Professor Werner served as the Dean of the Faculty of Social Welfare and Health Sciences and as the Vice Rector of the University of Haifa until October 2016.
