Ruud Koopmans is a Dutch professor of sociology at Humboldt University in Berlin and director of the ‘Migration, Integration and Transnationalisation’ department at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung (WZB). His research interests include social movements, citizenship, integration, European integration, religious fundamentalism and evolutionary sociology.
His research interests include the causes of far-right violence, integration policy in an international comparative perspective, the role of the welfare state in integration processes, the effect of multiculturalism on trust and social cohesion, Muslim fundamentalism, the employment rate of Muslims and how globalisation is leading to a new political divide between cosmopolitans and communautarists. He is author of ‘The Asylum Lottery’ (Prometheus, 2023).
