Bernd Klauer is mainly doing research as a water economist on water scarcity and quality problems in Germany, the EU, Jordan, and India. He is working in disciplines like economics of water resources, ecological economics, environmental and resource economics, sustainability science, governance research and engages in interdisciplinary collaboration with hydrologists, ecologists, lawyers, philosophers, and political scientists. The main topics of his research are: ydro-economic modeling, governance of water resources, decision support and integrated assessment, multi-criteria and monetary valuation, theory at the interface of economics and ecology, uncertainty and ignorance.
For complex challenges an interdisciplinary synthesis can be more important and more relevant than technical and disciplinary expertise. Global problems require an international synthesis.
