Dick Swaab
The Netherlands
Dick Swaab was Director of the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience from 1978 to 2005.
Since 1979 he has been Professor of Neurobiology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Amsterdam.
In 1985, he founded the Netherlands Brain Bank and was the Director there until 2005. Since 1978, he has been Leader Research Team Neuropsychiatric Disorders at the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience, an institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
Professor Swaab is Qiu Shi (= pursuing the truth) Professor of Zhejiang University in Hangzhou (China).

The first ministerial WHO conference on global action against dementia in 2015 stated, "We need to invest more in research to develop a drug, but also to improve the quality of life of people with dementia and the support of their caregivers."
The intention is to gather scientific insights about major societal challenges in LIAS on the basis of international and interdisciplinary consultation.
